How can you know your purpose?
As those who seek to follow the Lord and His Word, our purpose is to Know God and Glorify Him.
What God Reveals Through His Word.
According to God’s Word, our purpose, simply put, is to Know Him and to Glorify Him.
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. This is the greatest commandment. And the second is like it, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:37-40 KJV
“For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” 1 Cor 6:20 KJV
Fulfilling Your Purpose.
Discovering Your Path.
If we are no longer our own and bought with a price then we are here for God’s purposes. Just as the blueprint presented by Christ, we are not here to seek our own will, but the Will of our Father in heaven.
God tells us the greatest command is to love Him emotionally (heart), spiritually (soul), intellectually (mind), and passionately (strength). You cannot love someone with this intensity and intentionality that you do not know. We need to know Him, not just know about Him. This comes from spending time with Him and spending time in His Word. It comes from actively seeking and pursuing Him in our lives and circumstances.
What About the Second Greatest Commandment?
“And the second is like it, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:37-40 KJV
Is it better to give than to receive? How much do we give? What does that kind of love look like?
As the measure of all things, with Christ as our blueprint, service to the Father’s Will is not always easy. In the midst of trials and tribulations a life of service can certainly appear unglamorous. Particularly to people. And love is a word packed with meaning. We can thank our dichotomy for that – being created in the image of God while simultaneously being fallen and wrestling our sinful nature to conformity in Christ.
Loving your neighbor also cuts to the heart of our purpose. Not unlike the Greatest commandment, it pushes us to see past our own desires for self and restores our awareness of community. After all, Christ did not die only for you or I on the cross.
Here is an excellent article that unpacks this second greatest commandment beautifully.
How God Gifts Us For Our Purpose.
The life you have lived, and the circumstances you have gone through, make you uniquely qualified to glorify God in the way He has lead and prepared you to. Knowing your purpose isn’t about you and, yet, it absolutely is!
For Such A Time As This.
Only YOU know what that means for you. You are uniquely qualified because you have lived a life, and walked a path, that is uniquely yours. You have had trials and triumphs unique to you that make you best suited to glorify God in a way that only you can. God will continue to use your valley and mountain top experiences for His good purpose and your own. All the personal challenges you have faced, and will face, are a part of God molding your character to become more like Christ. God comes along side each of us in order to help us see that, indeed, we can, “know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28 KJV
How Does Coaching fit?
Discovering your path and how to best utilize the gifts you have been given to fulfill your purpose is what I am here to help you with. I am not here to tell you what to do but to come along side you, to encourage you, to prayerfully seek clarification through the Holy Spirit and God’s Word, and to lift you up as you discover your personal path to fulfilling your purpose.
Not unlike the two on the road to Emmaus, we have within us the desire to understand our Lord’s purposes more fully. Jesus joined them as they walked and, as He revealed Himself through the Scriptures, they began to understand more clearly Who He was and what purpose His life and death served. Luke 24:13-35 Our hearts burn when we walk and talk with the Lord. When He is showing us who He is and guiding us in our purpose, His Spirit within us is on fire!
When we are seeking, and serving in, the Will of our Father in heaven we are living out the fulfillment of our purpose.
It would be my honor to come along side you as you seek to clarify how best to use your unique gifts, abilities and life experience to fulfill your purpose and to discover your path to know God more deeply and to Glorify Him in your life.
